Roberts spent almost his entire military career in British India and in this autobiography he relates his military adventures there, from serving as a young officer in the savage fighting of the Indian Mutiny war to becoming British commander-in-chief in India many years later. Along the way he presents himself as a good writer and a genuinely decent, high-minded person. My only criticism is that he concentrates almost exclusively on his military duties and experiences; it would be a better book had he chosen to reveal more of the personal side of his life.Product details
